English Literature with English Language

This course programme offers you the opportunity to study a range of courses in English Literature and to study the history and structure of the English Language with specialist tutors in Linguistics. You will develop linguistic awareness and the intellectual and interpersonal skills which are valued by a wide range of employers. These include: the ability to evaluate and interpret material and the capacity to explain it logically, orally or on paper, the ability to exercise initiative in your work, to manage your own time and to work under pressure to meet targets set by yourself and others.

Please note: It is also possible to study English Language with English Literature (UCAS code: Q3Q2 BA/EngEL) which is similar in overview to English Literature with English Language, except that there is more focus given to the study of the English Language. The English Language with English Literature course would be ideal for applicants who are fascinated by the English language but are also interested in how the language is manifest in historic and contemporary literature. Two-thirds of the modules will be taken from the School of Lingustics and English Language, while the remaining third of modules will be taken from the School of English.
